Karen Gillan
Currently best known for her portrayal in the British science fiction
series, Doctor Who, Karen Sheila Gillan is a Scottish actress who was
born on 28th November 1987. She was born and raised in Inverness by her
father Raymond John who was a Day Center Manager and her mother Marie.
She is also the cousin to actress Caitlin Blackwood who played Amy Pond
in 2 episodes of Doctor Who.
Karen Gillan interest in acting developed when she was age 16 where she
went to study the craft at Edinburgh’s Telford College. She later
secured a place in the Italian Conti Academy of Theatre Arts, a drama
school in London for a BA Acting degree course.
Other than her role in acting especially in Doctor Who, Karen Gillan has
taken part in many modeling events which include the London Fashion Week
in 2007 where she posed for autumn/winter catwalk show for designer
Allegra Hicks. She has also modeled for Nicola Roberts’ lunch party in
Dainty Doll Make-Up Range.
He early acting has been appearance in various dramatic series with her
first appearance being in the Kelvin Bishop Show, a sketch comedy, where
she played a variety of characters and personalities of Ketty Perry and
Angelina Jolie. Karen Gillan also appeared in The Wall, a horror project
broadcasted on BBC Two. She was later cast in the role of Eleventh
Doctor’s 1st companion in Doctor Who in early 2007. This part was first
aired on 3rd April 2010 and was confirmed to be appearing in the 2011
series by the Doctor Who Magazine.
Other television series that she has appeared in include Rebus in 2006
as Terry Cotter, Harley Street in 2008 as Holly, Stacked in 2008 as
Ginny Turner and Outcast in 2010 as Ally. Karen Gillan was also featured
in the 2010 video game of Doctor Who: The Adventure Game as Amy Pond.
