Kate Nash is a singer-songwriter who writes and sings music of the Indie
pop and anti-folk genre. Aside from singing, she can also play the
guitar, the keyboard, and the bass. In 2007, her song “Foundations” made
it to #2 in UK Charts. Her album, “Made of Bricks” also reached Platinum
in the same year.
As a child, Nash was already interested in music. She studied piano,
guitar, and theatre. She auditioned at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre
School but was rejected after breaking her foot by falling down the
stairs. This was the turning point of Nash’s life. Since she was
homebound for her recovery, her mother bought her an electrical guitar.
This was the time when she focused on her songwriting and began writing
new songs. With this new development, she decided to get some gigs for
herself on a bar called Trinity to share her songs with the public.
It was only in 2006 when Nash started her career. Although she was
getting some gigs at the local bar, she also uploaded her songs to
MySpace.com. From there she got a manager and together they looked for
music producers who are willing to produce her songs.
Her debut single, "Caroline's a Victim"/"Birds", was produced by Valgeir
Sigurđsson and was released by Moshi Moshi Records in 2007. Her hit
single, “Foundation”, was produced by Fiction Records. Ever since then,
Nash continued to become one of the more popular UK artists. She is in a
relationship with Ryan Jarman of The Cribs.
